Sir Simon Milton Westminster University Technical College

About the Sir Simon Milton Westminster University Technical College
The Sir Simon Milton Foundation, with our partners the University of Westminster and Network Rail, have founded a new college for 14-19 year olds in Westminster, which is educating young Londoners for high achieving, professional careers in the transport engineering and construction industries. We will inspire and develop a new generation of young women and men to become engineers, technicians and businesses leaders with the academic and problem solving skills, confidence and knowledge needed to excel.

Students enjoy the independence of travelling into the heart of our vibrant city for an education that treats them as the young adults that they are. The breath-taking flagship UTC building is a ten-minute walk from the transport hub of Victoria Station. An atmosphere of scholarly endeavour helps every student, whatever their circumstances, achieve excellence. Able, motivated and expert staff light the sparks in the students’ imaginations.

Since opening its doors in September 2017, the UTC has offered a unique opportunity for ambitious, hard-working students to develop key skills and knowledge through the latest technology, state of the art facilities and expert teaching. This is combined with exciting business challenges delivered by the experts from our high-profile partner employers including Landsec, BT Fleet Solutions, Network Rail, Transport for London, Alstom Transport, Sir Robert McAlpine, Keltbray, David Miller Architects and Colas Rail. Through these projects, the students develop work skills as well as applying their academic learning. It is not a place for the faint-hearted – days are long (08.30 to 17.00) to mirror work practice and students are expected to follow the standards of behaviour and dress that are the norm in industry.

As the charitable partner for the UTC, the Foundation has established a UTC capital fund which will provide grants to support students’ travel costs, reward achievement and, where needed, help progression to university through scholarships and a contribution to the costs of going to university. Our fund will also help the UTC to buy and maintain specialist equipment and provide additional one-to-one support for students with particular needs.
